Stepping Outside the Comfort Zone

Kaylee Konitzer - Social Media Claims Investigator Intern

Hired: May 2015

Graduating from UW-Oshkosh in May 2017

You are in one of the newer internships at SECURA. So far, what has been your biggest takeaway from this position?

I never envisioned myself working in a Special Investigations Unit department as I thought I wanted to intern specifically in claims. I didn't even know what SIU was until I researched and applied to my position. The opportunity arose and I chose to just go for it. This has been a huge life lesson, as I believe it is important to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. Not to mention, I have come to really enjoy my Social Media Claims Investigator Intern position at SECURA. I have been exposed to a variety of claims and different areas within claims. It is never a dull moment, that's for sure! Because I took the leap, I have grown so much personally and have learned, and continue to learn, about the industry.

You are involved in some of the wellness activities at SECURA. How has this impacted your experience as an intern?

Health and wellness is definitely a large part of SECURA's culture, as well as something I truly value in my life. I have become involved with the SECURA Runs program and also take a couple fitness classes here. It's wonderful to be able to take time out of my day to dedicate to my health; SECURA cares about their employees and encourages us to take care of ourselves. Also, I have been able to network and meet some new, great people through the wellness activities at SECURA! It's great to have others to help hold you accountable and cheer you on!

If you could rewind time to your first day at SECURA, what would you tell yourself?

Before interning at SECURA, I interned for an agent with only a few other employees. I recall being nervous and feeling a bit intimidated about entering the "corporate world". SECURA made it an easy transition, as everyone was so welcoming and friendly. "There is nothing to be nervous about!"
