Exploring the Fun at SECURA

Olivia Bessette – Research & Development Intern

Hired: November 2014

Graduating from UW-Oshkosh in May 2016

Q: How you landed your internship at SECURA is interesting. Can you tell us about that?

A: When I first started looking for an internship, I attended the Career Fair on the Fox at UW-Oshkosh. I had heard great things about SECURA, so I decided to stop by their booth and talk to them. After a short discussion I gave them my resume and heard from them a few days later. After two sets of interviews, I landed my current internship.

Q: What was it like to win the Ugly Sweater contest?

A: Winning the Ugly Sweater contest was definitely one of my favorite memories from SECURA. I wore an ugly sweater with little intention of actually participating in the contest. I didn't have much of a choice when I decided to watch the contest with a fellow coworker, Tanya Goerg, in Research and Development. She insisted I get up in front of half the company and model my sweater. It was extremely intimidating at first, but it ended up being a lot of fun.

Q: What other fun events have you participated in at SECURA?

A: I have participated in United Way week by attending several different events, like the talent show and the pie throwing competition. I have participated in different wellness activities and attended a few different workout classes. My favorite events to participate in are the intern gatherings. It's nice getting to know the other interns in the company and hearing about their experiences at both SECURA and at school.

Q: What has been your favorite part about interning at SECURA?

A: My favorite part of interning at SECURA is receiving the same types of responsibilities as full-time employees. Although as an intern I'm being treated as a full-time employee, my manager has worked really well with my school schedule and has encouraged me to become part of campus clubs and attend their events.
