Learn how our finance intern, Aubree, landed her internship with SECURA.

I went to Career Fair on the Fox at UW Oshkosh and visited all of the insurance companies. I knew from the Handshake website for UW Oshkosh students that SECURA had an internship open in finance. At the fair, I chatted with a couple of the representatives about this opportunity and received some information about the company.

After the career fair, I applied online for the position. Shortly after, I received an email from SECURA’s Human Resources Department asking for a phone interview. I was called back for an in-person interview about a week later. For this interview, I met with someone from Human Resources, the supervisor for the position, and one other associate from Finance. A little more than week later, I was called and offered the position.

My advice for those applying to and interviewing for internships is to research the company beforehand. A company’s website contains valuable information to know for your interview. I learned about SECURA’s community involvement and culture, and tied this into my interview. People always say not to brag about yourself, but an interview is the one time you have to be confident and showcase all your talents. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

Between my internship, school, and personal life, I am certainly keeping myself busy.  It’s relatively easy for me to balance my internship because, when I do have free time, I’m forced to do schoolwork. My class schedule allows me to do long school days on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which allows me to be at my internship Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

When searching for an internship, I was open to a lot of opportunities. I looked at and applied to many companies, and I am happy that I chose to intern with SECURA.
